ELMER JOHN ERKKILA
Elmer John Erkkila, a Centerville pioneer, was born in
Tornio, Finland on April 14, 1887 to Mr. and Mrs. John Elmer Erkkila and
died at Goldendale, Wa. on April 15, 1968. When he was a young man, he came
to the United States and worked in Michigan and Butte, Mt. for several years.
Elmer and a friend, John Liimatta, wanted to see the
west coast and so arrived in Centerville where he met and married Hilda Selma
Niemela. To this union were born four children;Sadie Irene Hamllik of Yakima,
Elda Emeline Hamllik of Goldendale, John Elmer Erkkila of Battle Ground and
George Erkkila. His wife, Hilda, one son, George, three sisters, Saima Erkkila,
Helmie Remalie, and Mrs. Nakkula and two brothers, George Erkkila and Uno
Henry Erkkila preceded him in death.
Left to mourn his passing are his three children; one
brother, Vaino Erkkila of Michigan; three grandchildren, eight great-grand
children, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Services were conducted on Wednesday, April 79, 1968
at Knosher Funeral Home with Rev. M.B. Ketcham officiating. Interment was
in the Centerville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Raymond Mattson, Wilbert Crocker, Arnold
Hoikka, Alvin Randall, George Willis and Floyd Hamllik.
