PIONEER CALLED
Funeral services were held at Glenwood, Wednesday, Nov.
4, for Emily Jane Murray, pioneer and resident of Glenwood country for half
a century, with Rev. E.W. McAbee of White Salmon in charge.
Mrs. Murray passed away Tuesday morning Nov. 3rd at the
home of her daughter, Miss Nora Murray, culminating an illness of some two
months in which after a stroke of paralysis, she sank steadily lower until
release came. She was in her eighty-second year at the time of her death.
Mrs. Murray was born Sep. 9th, 1849 at Stewardsville,
Missouri and while still quite young she made the long pioneer trek to the
West Country, and in 1866 was married to James Murray at Willamina, Oregon.
Fifty years ago she moved with her family to the Panakanic and continuously
since that time has made her home in the Glenwood country. Seven children
were born to this union, one dying in infancy and two sons preceding the
mother in death by just a few years. The husband, Mr. James Murray, passed
away six years ago. Remaining to mourn the going of the mother are three
daughters, Mrs. Martha Dymond, of Laurel, Wash.; Mrs. Nora Murray of Glenwood,
Wn.; and Mrs. Della Hylton of Mulino, Ore., and also one son, Mr. Ed Murray
of Glenwood, Wn. Besides them, there are ten grandchildren and eighteen
great-grandchildren. To all these in their bereavement the sympathy and kind
regard of a host of acquaintances and friends is extended.

"Glenwood"
The death of Mrs. James Murray occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 3rd, at 8 o'clock a.m. at her home east of town. Funeral services were held at the house on Nov. 4th at 2 p.m. and she was laid to rest in the Mt. Adams cemetery beside her husband who passed away in 1924. The Anderson funeral director conducted the funeral and Rev. Clark had charge of the service. Mrs. Murray was 81 years of age and a real pioneer, having lived her practically all her married life, and had many friends in this locality. She leaves to mourn her loss three daughters, Mrs. Delia Hylton, of Portland, Mrs. Bert Dymond and Miss Nora Murray, and one son, C.E. Murray, of Glenwood, eight grandchildren and a host of friends who extend their sympathy to the bereaved family.

EMILY J. THORNTON MURRAY
Emily Jane Thornton, pioneer of western Klickitat county,
passed away at her home near Glenwood, Washington, November 3, 1931, at the
age of 82 years, 1 month and 25 days. She was born at Gainsville, Missouri,
September 9, 1849 and crossed the plains to oregon with her parents, the
Rev. and Mrs. J. Thornton, and settled near McMinnville, Oregon in 1865.
She was married to James Murray at Willamina, Oregon, November 11th, 1866.
To this union seven children were born, one son passed away in infancy; two
sons, Riley and Frank preceding the mother by just a few years. Her husband
James Murray, passed away six years ago.
With her husband and six children she came to western
Klickitat county, and settled at Panakanic in 1887. there they braved the
hardships of pioneer life. The children all grew to maturity and settled
in the Camas Prairie and Glenwood country, and all were well known in western
Klickitat county.
She leaves to mourn her loss, one son and three daughters:
Ed and Nora Murray, of Glenwood; Mrs. M. E. Staack Dymond, Laurel and
Mrs. J.M. Hylton, Mulino, Oregon. Three brothers: Isaac Thornton, Roseburg,
Oregon, Jerry Thornton, Portland, Oregon. Eighteen grandchildren and ten
great grandchildren.
She was laid to rest in the Mt. Adams Cemetery near Glenwood
on November 4, 1931.

Funeral services for Mrs. Emily Jane Murray, pioneer
of the Glenwood country, were condusted by Rev. Earl McAbee, Wednesday Nov.
4. Mr. and Mrs. Murray came to Glenwood 50 years ago. Surviving are three
daughters, Nora Murray, Glenwood; Mrs. Martha Dymond, Laurel, and Mrs. Della
Hylton, Mulino, Ore., one son, Edward, lives at Glenwood. Jerry Thornton,
Roseburg, and Jor Thornton, Eugene, are brothers of Mrs. Murray.
