MRS. WOODROW KOCK SUCCUMBS TO ACCIDENT
The entire community was shocked yesterday upon hearing of the sudden death of Mrs. Woodrow Kock of White Salmon as the result of an accident Wednesday. Traveling between White Salmon and Underwood in the car driven by her husband, Mrs. Koch became frightened upon hearing a thumping noise under the car. Thinking something was radically wrong, she jumped out with her baby, struck a rock and fractured her skull. She never regained consciousness. The baby was not injured.
FUNERAL SATURDAY
Ellen Murray was born at Glenwood, Wash., February 28,
1918, and was married to Woodrow Koch May 12, 1934. Met with an accident
with the car on the way to the Hick's mill, August 17, 1936, which resulted
in her death at the Hood River hospital at 12 o'clock midnight.
Funeral services will be held at the Gardner chapel at
11 a.m. on Saturday, with a church service at Glenwood at 2:30 p.m. with
interment in the cemetery there beside her father.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, Woodrow
Koch, and infant daughter, mother, Mrs. Murray, six sisters and two brothers.
The Gardner Funeral Home has charge of the services with Elder Harry Beal
of The Dalles, an old friend of the family, officiating.

Our community was saddened to hear of the sudden death of Ellen Murray Koch. Ellen was born in Glenwood and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her loss a baby girl nine months old and her husband, her mother, Mrs. Riley Murray, and sisters and brothers, Mrs. Herbert Kuhnhausen, Mrs. Chas. Lainhart, Henry, Wallace, Wilma, Viola and Gene Murray.

Baby Uninjured in Accident -- Was Frightened

Jumping from the Ford roadster which her husband was
driving west on the Evergreen highway Wednesday, near the old Cook road below
the Eryie, with her baby in her arms, Mrs. Woodrow Koch, 20, of White Salmon,
received fatal internal injuries of the head, and passed away Thursday morning
at 12:10 in the Hood River hospital. The baby was uninjured.
According to reports Mrs. Koch became frightened when
the car started "bucking" and making unusual noises and suddenly decided
to jump, her head striking a rock.
Mr. Koch stated the car was only traveling about 20 miles
per hour. It is an uphill grade at the point of the accident. Mrs. Koch is
the daughter of Mrs. Millie Murray of White Salmon.
According to releases from doctor's bulletins today Mrs.
Koch received very severe basal skull fractures. Although the skin was not
broken, she bled through the ear.
