ESTHER LENA BENNETT
Esther Lena Bennett, 94, a resident of Dallesport, died
at the local hospital on Monday, April 17, 2006.
She was born in Jefferson Township, Iowa, on March 6,
1912 to Fred and Anna (Kundy) Lenius. She grew up with her four brothers,
Carl, Arnold, Gus and Albert and one sister, Martha on the family farm outside
of Oelwein, Iowa.
She married Leon Charles Bennett on Feb. 8, 1937. They
moved in 1948 from Oelwein to Mill City. Since her husband followed construction
the couple moved from Mill City, to Eugene, Hood River, then to Portland
where they operated a restaurant. They moved to The Dalles in 1958 where
they continued in the restaurant business until their retirement. In 1972
they moved to Dallesport, where she resided until her death.
She is survived by a step son, Warren Bennett, Regina,
Canada; one son, Larry Bennett, Dallesport; 14 grand children; 32
great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Bennett;
her daughter, Edith Penhollow; one granddaughter and one grandson.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 25,
at 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor John Westhalfer officiating.
Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-Quatt Crematory
with Smith, Callaway Chapel in care of arrangements.
