MRS. HERMAN BERTSCHI SUCCUMBS AFTER LONG ILLNESS PNEUMONIA
-----------------------
Mrs. Herman Bertschi died at her home at Glenwood at
10:30 Wednesday evening, having been ill for several weeks from pneumonia.
Mrs. Bertschi was 60 years old, the daughter of W.K. Cole and wife who settled
Camas Prairie in 1878, Mrs. Cole still living at the age of nearly 90.
Ella Mary Cole in 1881 married Herman Bertschi, who at
an early day in the settlement of the Northwest, came West from Iowa, where
he lived but a short time after coming to the United States from Switzerland.
The deceased leaves, besides her husband, three children, Wm. and Cleveland,
who reside at home, and Mrs. Ludel Markgraf. Sharing all the hardships of
pioneer days with her parents and husband, Mrs. Bertschi never murmured,
joyfully triumphed over them, helping her husband win riches, and in her
illness had the sympathy of the entire settlement, for she was much esteemed
for her good qualities.
The funeral services will be held at Glenwood today.
