ETHEL FAMELOS

     Funeral services for 99-year-old Ethel Mary Famelos, who died in Hood River on June 17, 2003, were held Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home.
     Mrs. Famelos was born in Stanwood on Dec. 26, 1903, the daughter of Ella (Parker) and Carter Evans. She graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1923 and later attended and graduated from Ellensburg Teachers College and began her teaching career in Asotin County. In 1930, she married John Edgar Geschwint in Goldendale. In 1945, she began working at the Bingen School, teaching there for 21 years before retiring in 1966. Mr. Geschwint died in January 1959 and she married Gus Famelos in 1961. He also preceded her in death in 1981.
     Mrs. Famelos belonged to the White Salmon Rebekah Lodge, where she was a 50-year member. She also was a member of the Eastern Star, Klickitat County Historical Club, AARP, the Congregational Church, and the Women's Federated Club, which she was president of for six years. She loved people and traveling, and enjoyed collecting things.
     Survivors include sons Louis Geschwint, Bingen, and Larry C. Geschwint, Mission Hills, Calif.; granddaughters Debora Geschwint, Vancouver, Lisa Estey, Everett, and Diane Olmstead, Auburn; and five great-grandchildren.
     Vault interment was held at the White Salmon Cemetery, with Gardner Funeral Home handling arrangements.
