ESTHER WILLIAMS
Graveside services for Columbia High School alumni Esther
Maria Williams was held Jan. 3, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the White Salmon
Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams, an east county Portland resident, died
on Dec. 31, 1998, at the age of 85 at a Portland hospital.
She was born on June 17, 1913, in Underwood to Heinrich
and Christaina Kapp. As a young girl, she attended grade school in Underwood
and graduated from Columbia High School in 1931. Following her graduation,
she attended Washington State University in Pullman for one year.
Mrs. Williams continued to reside in White Salmon and
as time passed, she met Herbert L. Williams. They were married in Washington
in the early 193Os. Following their marriage, they remained in White Salmon
and she began caring for her home and family. Mr. Williams preceded her in
death in 1952. Following his death, Mrs. Williams stayed in White Salmon
until 1963 and then moved to the Portland area. After arriving in Portland,
she went to work as a bookkeeper for Oregon Mutual Savings Bank for 10 years,
retiring in the early 197Os.
Mrs. Williams is survived by two daughters Norma Miller,
Gresham, Ore., and Kay Hamm, Englewood, Fla.; brother Carl Kapp, Carson;
sister Rosa K. Reinland, Spokane; grandchildren William L Lauterbach, Douglas
S. Miller, Gary D. Miller and Richard L Miller; two great-grandchildren Matthew
Miller and Sara Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gresham Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
