ETHEL STARR
Ethel Nina Starr, a Lyle resident since 1966, died at
her home in Lyle on Sept. 4, 1997, at the age of 87.
Mrs. Starr was born March 15, 1910, in Cody, Neb., to
Pearl N. (Frazey) and James E. Wallingford. The family lived on a ranch in
Cherry County, Neb., and she and her twin brother were one of three sets
of twins - all one boy and one girl. The family moved to Tuthill, S.D., where
they farmed. She went to grade school in Cody, Neb., and graduated from Martin,
S.D. She moved to Lyle in 1966 and has lived there since. She attended both
the Pentecostal and Methodist churches. She constantly sewed and baked. She
was very dedicated to writing songs and poems. She loved flower gardening
and canning. She could always make something out of nothing.
Mrs. Starr is survived by her sons, James E. Starr, Hepner,
Ore., and Jackson C. Starr, White Salmon; daughter Verla D. Wilson, Lyle;
sister Olive M. Bosel, Cathlamet; brother Ira Wallingford, Omaha, Neb.; as
well as 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Sept. 8, 1997, at 11 a.m.
at Lyle Balch Cemetery in Lyle, with Pastor Les Haarstad officiating.
Memorials may be made to the children's program at Lyle
Full Gospel Assembly Church.
Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon was in charge of
the arrangements.
