FRANCIS P. CARYL
Frances Powell Caryl, a Trout Lake resident since 1963,
died in Hood River Oct. 24, 1993, at the age of 91.
Mrs. Caryl was born March 4, 1902, in Fossil, Ore. She
was adopted by Stella Johnson. She grew up in Portland, but spent a lot of
time at eastern Oregon ranches belonging to relatives. It was there that
she developed a love for horses.
She married Charlie Gilmore Wilson in 1928. they lived
in Portland, where they raised their two children. He preceded her in death
in 1953. In 1963, she met and married Robert Caryl. They then moved to Trout
Lake.
She was a charter member of the Trout Lake Women's Club.
She loved to garden and do handcrafts, including making stuffed toys for
her grandchildren. Her granddaughter Dana spent every summer in Trout Lake,
where she inherited her grandmother's love for horses following Mrs. Caryl's
purchase of a horse named Buster.
Mrs. Caryl is survived by her husband Robert S. Caryl,
Trout Lake; daughter Constance Buckley, Friday Harbor; son David Wilson,
Bellevue; four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 28, 1993, at 1 p.m. at
Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon, with Arlene Forister officiating. Interment
was in the Trout Lake Cemetery.
