FRANCIS HOLMES KEYES
Francis Holmes Keyes, 78, of Lyle, died in his home Monday,
Aug. 21. Funeral services will be held Thursday, today, at Gardner Funeral
Home beginning at 11 a.m. Vault interment will be at Lyle Balch Cemetery.
Mr. Keyes was born Oct. 7, 1910, in Pocatello, Idaho,
to Nina (Holmes) and Edward Lee Keyes. he was raised in Pocatello. He attended
and graduated from the University of Idaho. Aug. 11, 1933, Mr. Keyes married
Norlee Davis in Idaho. He worked for the state of Idaho at various locations
around the state.
He moved to the mid-Columbia area and worked for the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1938 until 1970, working for many years
at The Dalles Dam. He was a registered civil engineer.
Mr. Keyes was a member of the grange. He was also active
in the Community Concert Association in Hood River, Ore., and was a former
clarinetist for the Hood River Orchestra.
Mr. Keyes enjoyed woodworking, and music and was an important
part of his life.
He is survived by his wife Norlee of Lyle, sons David
Keyes of Portland, Ore., Robert Keyes of Binghampton, N.Y., and Richard Keyes
of Portland, brother Clement Peter Keyes of The Dalles, Ore., eight grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.
Contributions in Mr. Keyes' name may be given to the
Mid-Columbia Sinfionetta of a charity of choice.
