FLORA MURRAY

     Flora Juanita Murray, 98, Glenwood died on Oct. 9, 2003, in Toppenish.
     Mrs. Murray was born Jan. 25, 1905, in Prinevile, Ore., to William and Elisabeth Startt Porter. She moved with her family to Glenwood in 1920 for a year, before moving to White Salmon. After graduating from Columbia Union High School in 1922, she attended Ellensburg Normal School, earning a lifetime teaching certificate. She started her 30-year teaching career in Klickitat Heights, riding horseback eight miles each day to school and back. During her teaching career, she taught at White Salmon, Lyle, Trout Lake and Glenwood. She returned to Central Washington State College in Ellensburg, earning her bachelor of arts degree in 1965.
     In 1930, she married Howard Lewis "Tye" Murray and they moved to Scappose, Ore., for two years, then to Trout Lake for one and half years, before returning to Glenwood.
     Mrs. Murray was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, P.E.O., Pioneer Memorial Church, Glenwood Women's Club, and the Ladies Aide. She was a 4-H leader, brownie leader and Klickitat County Cowbelle.
     Survivors include son Bubs; daughter Rosemary; grandchildren Taunie Shupe, Trudie Harris, Joel Patterson, EddieMurray, Maria Hutchins, Shawn Murrow, Ross Murrow and Joann Murrow; and great-grandchildren Bo Harris, Joelle Patterson, Lexi Paterson, Marlena Shupe, Allison Hutchins, and Royce Murrow.
     Her husband, Tye, and great-granddaughter Darcie Shupe preceded her in death.
     Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Pioneer Memorial Church in Glenwood.
     Memorials can be made to the Glenwood Cemetery or the Glenwood Pioneer Memorial Church.

     Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at the Pioneer Memorial Church in Glenwood. The family requests that donations be made to the Glenwood Cemetery or the Glenwood Pioneer Memorial church.
