FONDA ENGEL
Fonda M. Engel, a former Bingen resident, died May 27,
1997, at the Hood River Care Center, at the age of 88.
Mrs. Engel was born on Nov. 30, 1908, in Council Bluff,
Iowa to Charles and Louise (Pingeon) Portner. She grew up and attended schools
in Iowa. While living in South Dakota, she married George Geppert in 1924.
He died in 1952. She resided in Bingen for many years. On Dec. 16, 1953,
she married Carl Engel in Hood River. He died in 1983. Mrs. Engel has resided
at the Hood River Care Center since 1984. She was a home-maker and had been
employed for many years with Diamond Fruit Growers. She enjoyed cooking and
playing cards. Although she had no children of her own she was a mother to
many.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as by
both her husbands and five brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her sisters Betty Kessinger and Lorraine
Robinson, both of Klickitat, Adele Mansfield, White Salmon, Rose Gates of
Grants Pass, Ore., and Lillian Bringer, Rapid City, S.D.; and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 30, 1997, at 2
p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home. Father Joe Kelbel of St. Mary's Catholic Church
officiated. Concluding services and interment followed at White Salmon
Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation,
in care of Anderson Funeral Home who was in charge of the arrangements.
