Frances Mae Ewing
Frances Mae Ewing, 92, died in The Dalles on Oct. 9,
2003. She was born June 16, 1911 in Cambridge, Nebraska to Frank Arnold and
Grace Mae (Hall) Harvey.
She graduated from St. Francis High School in Kansas
in 1930 and married Lotus Ewing later that same year. In 1938 they moved
to Lyle, Wash.
Mrs. Ewing was a home-maker and belonged to the Methodist
church. She was very active in Columbia Grange. Since the 1940's, she served
in various capacities, including treasurer for many years and chairwoman
of the State Grange Association. She was prolific crocheter of afghans, an
avid reader, an accomplished seamstress, even teaching sewing as a 4-H
leader.
Mrs. Ewing is survived by her children, Joyce Sauls of
Lyle, Kent Ewing of Sterling, Colo., Keith Ewing of Newport Beach, Calif.,
Janice Garber of Newberg, Ore. and Judy Clarke of Ocean Shores, Wash. Also
surviving are twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and one
great-great grandchild.
Preceding her in death was her husband Lotus in 1983,
daughter Geraldine Ewing, sister Ethel Russell and brother Ward Harvey.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ewing will be held on Thursday,
Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon, with interment
to follow at the Lyle Balch Cemetery in Lyle.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the
Gorge in care of Gardner Funeral Home who handled the arrangements.
