     The funeral of Frederick Eshelman, 83 years of age and one of the pioneers of Washington and who was also a typical 49er, having come to California in the gold rush in 1848, took place from the home of his son, the Rev. J.T. Eshelman, City Librarian. The remains will be taken the Centerville, Klickitat County, Washington for interment. Mr. Eshelman was born in Pennsylvania in 1824. In early manhood he moved to Missouri where he was married 64 years ago. He remained in Missouri until inflamed by the gold stories from California. He with many others from his neighborhood in Missouri went there by way of the Isthmus of Panama.
     Remaining there but a short time he returned to Missouri and after staying in the state a few years, with his family migrated to the Pacific Coast. After a few years spent in California, Mr. Eshelman came to Washington, settling with his family in Klickitat County 80 years ago. He lived there until3 years ago, since which time he has lived mostly with his sons here. Besides his wife, Mr. Eshelman leaves four sons: The Rev. J.T. and Dudley Eshelman of Tacoma; Dr. E.C. Eshelman of Portland, Oregon, and L.J. Eshelman of Goldendale, Washington. Mr. Eshelman's death was due to old age.

FREDERICK ESHELMAN

     Frederick Eshelman, aged 83 years, died yesterday at the residence of his son, J.T. Eshelman, 516 North J street. He had been ill for about six weeks with heart troble and a complication incident to his advanced years. He was a native of Pennsylvania and have lived in northwestern Missouri and in California, going to Napa county in the latter state in 1875. He left there in the fall of 1877 and located at Centerville, Klickitat county, Washington, following his occupation as a farmer. Since the death of his wife, five years ago, he had made his home with his son in Tacoma. The other sons survive him, Dudlay of Tacoma, L.J. of Goldendale, and Dr. E.C. Eshelman of Portland. Funeral services were held at the residence this afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. F.W. Cowden officiating, and the body was taken to Centerville for interment, leaving here at 3 p.m.

     Pioneer Passes Away. -Frederick Eshelman, aged 83 years died at the residence of his son, J.T. Eshelman in Tacoma Wednesday. The remains will be taken to Centerville, Klickitat County, for interment. Besides a widow he leaves to mourn his loss, four sons, J.T. and Dudley of Tacoma, Dr. G.C. of Portland, Ore., and L.J. of Centerville. Mr. Eshelman has been a resident of Klickitat nearly thirty years, and for the past five years he has made his home in Tacoma, with his sons.
