SERVICE TODAY
F. WINEBARGER SERVICES TODAY AT GARDNER'S
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 25 at 11
a.m. in Gardner's Chapel in White Salmon for Fred Winebarger, who died Tuesday
morning in a Portland hospital. The Reverend Donald Kaelin will officiate.
Members of the Evan Childs Post No. 87 of the American Legion will assist
in graveside ceremonies at Goodwill Cemetery at White Salmon.
Pallbearers will be Richard Balsiger, Charles Henderson,
Tony Mosbrucker, Kenneth Flaherty, Willard Wang and Elmer Clark.
Survivors include the widow, Marie, son Carl, daughter
Dorothy Henkle, four grand-children, Gregory, Sandra, Esther and Tony Winebarger
all of White Salmon; three brothers, Lee of Lynchburg, Va., Jake of Boone,
N.C. and a Carl of Paradise, Calif., and a sister, Dora Johnson of Zionville,
N.C., and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Winebarger was born August 31, 1894 at Meat Camp,
N.C.. He came west at the age of 15 and lived at Moro, Oregon until he enlisted
in the Army in October 1917. He served in Europe during and after World War
I and with the American Expeditionary Force, receiving his discharge July,
1919.
He was married to Marie Pierson at Madras, Oregon on
November 25, 1920. They operated a wheat ranch at Moro until the family moved
to Trout Lake, Washington in 1925 and made their home on a dairy farm there
until 1943. They moved to White Salmon, where he became a cherry grower.
Mr. Winebarger was a member of the American Legion, he
served on the Trout Lake school board for several years. He was a committeeman
of the State Fruit Commission until failing health forced his retirement.
