GORDON BAKER
Gordon Clarence Baker, an 86-year-old resident of Underwood,
died Oct. 17, 1986, in Hood River.
He was born on Sept. 27, 1900, in Rochelle, Ill., to
Cora and Charles Baker. He was raised in Illinois. He worked in New York,
Chicago and Cleveland for an adding machine company when he was young. He
came west in 1923 and settled at Locke Hill up Snowden Road, where he farmed.
He married Sarah Pearce on April 14, 1929, at her parents home. They moved
to Underwood in 1942 and continued to farm there until he gradually phased
out of farming to work full time at the Willard Fish Hatchery. He worked
there for nine years.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, Underwood; sons, David
C. Baker, Hood River, Gerald G. Baker, Upland, Calif., Richard B. Baker,
Gladstone, Ore., and Lauriston D. Baker, Arlington; brothers, George W. Baker,
Arlington, and Raymond C. Baker, Elma; a sister, Dora Seaman, Elma; and seven
grand-sons.
Services will be held Oct. 31, 1986, at 11 a.m. at Gardner
Funeral Home, with Rev. Arthur Dickie offciating. Interment will be in the
White Salmon Cemetery.
Contributions may be given to the Baker Scholarship Fund
in care of Rainier Bank, White Salmon.
