GERALD MILLER
Gerald “Jerry" Miller, mathematics teacher and coach at Columbia High School for
the past 23 years, died of cancer Sunday, July 13, in White Salmon, at the age
of 47.
He was born Jan. 7, 1939 to Andrew and Letha L.
(Kendall) Miller in Seattle, Wash. He was raised in Seattle, where he graduated
from Lincoln High School. He later graduated from Western Washington State
College in Bellingham and obtained his master's degree from Washington State
University, Pullman.
Mr. Miller came to White Salmon in 1963 to teach
mathematics. He married Linda Unger in June of 1964. In addition to his teaching
duties at CHS, Mr. Miller coached track and field and girls' basketball. His
first girls' varsity basketball team won the 1984 Southwest Washington District
championship, and his last girls' track team won the school's first Trico League
title in the spring of 1985. Mr. Miller was a member of Christian and Missionary
Alliance Church of Hood River, Ore.
He is survived by his wife Linda and daughters Trisha,
Andrea and Libby, all of White Salmon; mother Letha of Port Townsend, Wash.;
sister Sandra Lee Converse of Republic, Wash.; nephew Baron Converse, Republic;
and nieces Michelle Converse, Republic, and Destiny Converse, a member of the US
Air Force.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 17, at 7
p.m. in the Columbia High School gymnasium, with Revs. Steven Bush and Paul Ryan
officiating.
Interment will be Friday in the White Salmon Cemetery
at 11 a.m. . Arrangements are being handled by Gardner Funeral Home of White
Salmon.
