GEORGE G. MORRIS

     George Gould Morris was born near Saginaw, Mich. June 7, 1880 and died in Goldendale April 1, 1963. He came west as a small boy with his parents, who homestead near Rainier, Oregon.
     At the age of 14 he left home and went to work in the woods, following this type of work off and on the most of his life.
     In 1906 he was married to a Maude Davy, making their home at Sarah, Wash. To this union nine children were born. Two sons preceded their father in death.
     The family moved to High Prairie in 1917, taking up ranching as an occupation. Retiring from the ranch in 1935, Mr. and Mrs. Morris moved to White Salmon, where Mrs. Morris died in 1941.
     In 1945 Mr. Morris married Katie Niemela, with whom he lived in White Salmon until 1960, when he came to Goldendale to live with his daughter, Mrs. Ivan Riley, where he spent the remainder of his life.
     He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, two brothers, one sister, two sons, five daughters, 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services were held April 5 at 1 p.m., the Rev. R.G. Hess officiating. Knosher Funeral Home of was in charge.

"High Prairie News"

     Funeral services for George G. Morris were held at Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Goldendale with burial in the Lone Pine Cemetery at High Prairie. Pallbearers or his grandsons, Gary, Keith, Bruce Herbert Morris, James Riley and Richard Schwartz.
     Sons and daughters of Mr. Morris attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Morris, Roosevelt; George Morris, White Salmon; Mr. and Mrs. Art Humphrey (Melba), Tieton; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Riley (Mildred), Goldendale and Mrs. W. R. Kelly (Bertha), Orondo. Herb Morris, the youngest brother of the deceased, came from the Portland area with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Schwartz, a granddaughter. The family of Mr. Morris have requested that their appreciation be extended to those helping at the cemetery and with food for the family dinner. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schilling with 22 members present.
     Mrs. W.R. Kelly was a guest of her daughter and family, the Robert Schillings, during her stay here. On Saturday the Schillings and Mrs. Kelly were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Morris at White Salmon, coming on to Goldendale in the evening where Mrs. Kelly stayed overnight with her sister, Mrs. Ivan Riley.

     George Gould Morris was born at Saginaw, Michigan, June 7, 1880 passed away April 1, 1963 came west as a small boy and lived at Rainier, Oregon, until the age of 14 he left home to work in the woods, a work he followed throughout his life. He married Maud Davy in 1906 and lived at Sarah, Wash., until 1917 when he bought a ranch at High Prairie.
     To this union was born 9 children, two small sons preceded him in death. He retired in 1935 at white Salmon where Mrs. Morris passed away in 1941.
     He married Mrs. Katie Niemela in 1945.
     The last two years he has been making his home in Goldendale with his daughter, Mrs. Ivan Riley.
     He leaves to mourn him his wife, Katie, two brothers, one sister, two sons Edward and George, five daughters, twenty-two grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
     The funeral April 5 was taken care of by Knoshers Funeral Home of Goldendale.
     Rev. R.G. Hess officiating. Interment was at High Prairie.
     Pallbearers were: Garry, Keith, Bruce and Herb Morris, Richard Swartz and James Riley.
