GLADYS GENEVIECE WIIDANEN UECKER
Gladys Genevieve Wiidanen Uecker, 92, of Goldendale,
died at her home Sept. 27, 2000.
She was born May 7, 1908 to Charles and Jennie (Planting)
Wiidanen on the family ranch near Warwick, where her grandparents settled
in 1877. Gladys attended three different country schools and finished high
school at Centerville. Gladys and Wade " Tex" Uecker were married in 1937
and lived in Goldendale until 1942, when they moved back to the family ranch
at Warwick.
Gladys was a homemaker and rancher with her husband for
many years. He became ill in 1972 and died in 1975. Gladys continued to run
the ranch until 1980, when she moved back to Goldendale.
She and Tex were charter members of Christ the King Lutheran
Church and Gladys was a member of the Grange since 1935, a member of the
Leah Rebekah Lodge in Goldendale and Evergreen Chapter 1 Order of Eastern
Star, Klickitat County Historical Society and donated the baby cradle currently
on display in the museum, which her grandfather made for her when she was
born.
Gladys was an accomplished seamstress. She loved growing
flowers and traveled to Costa Rica, Egypt, Finland, Iceland and many other
destinations.
Although the couple had no children of their own, they
helped many of the boys and girls, who worked for them over the years, received
a college education.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews, and cousins,
including Ruth Anderson, of Goldendale.
Funeral services were held Oct. 2 in the Chapel of Erdman
Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Akins officiating. Interment was in the Wiidanen
plot of the Centerville cemetery.
