GEORGE MCLEOD FUNERAL HELD ON WEDNESDAY

     George Howard McLeod, a resident of Star Route 302, Lyle, Washington, passed away at his home on July 11th at the age of 72 years. He was born November 19th, 1896 at Dover, Prince Edward Island, Canada to Margaret and Calvin McLeod.
     He was united in marriage to Charlotte Burgess at Horsham, Sussex, England on October 7, 1917. They had made their home between Lyle and Appleton, Washington since 1923. He was a member of the Columbia Grange #87 of Lyle.        Surviving are his wife, Charlotte of Lyle; three sons, all of Lyle, William, Howard, and Gordon. There are two daughters: Etta Osina of Portland, Oregon and Ella Shebley of Lyle. Also a sister, Blanche Hollingshurst of Murray River, Prince Edward Island, Canada; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
     Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 16th, 11 a.m. at Gardner's Funeral Home in White Salmon with Rev. Lovall Phillips of Lyle officiating. Interment followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Appleton, Washington.
     Casket bearers were: Jim Curl, Robert Wheeler, Donald Milberger, Lotus Ewing, Frank Tuthill, F.L. Williams.

APPLETON -- the residents of Appleton were saddened and expressed their heart-felt sympathy to the family of George Howard McCleod, who passed away Friday. Mr. McLeod was born in Dover, Prince Edward Island, Canada, November 19, 1896. He was a veteran of World War 1. In December 1923 he came to Gesselhurst (top of Fisher's Hill) to help his uncle, Daniel McLeod on his farm. Later he was joined by his wife, Charlotte, and they have made their home here ever since. He had been cutting wood for the coming winter, feeling ill, he had gone into the house to rest, and passed away quickly.
     He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow, Charlotte; two daughters, Mrs. Etta Osina, Portland, and Mrs. Ella Shebley, Murdock; three sons, William, Howard and Gordon, all of the Lyle area; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Blanche Hollingshurst, Mary River, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Funeral services were in the Gardner Funeral Home, White Salmon, Wednesday morning. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery east of Appleton.
