G.J. KNUTSON LOCAL PIONEER DIES SUNDAY
Gilbert J. Knutson, longtime resident of White Salmon,
passed away at a nursing home near Battleground on February 15th. He was
born February 17th, 1872 at Adams, Minnesota, this son of Julia and Knute
Knutson.
He came to White Salmon in 1889 and started a jewelry
store in 1903, which he operated since that time. His wife Lucile passed
away July 3rd, 1947.
Surviving are three sons, Lloyd J. Knutson of White Salmon;
Kelsey N. Knutson of Portland, Oregon; Gilbert, Jr. of the White Salmon.
Two brothers: Charles of Seattle, Washington and James of Los Angeles,
California. One sister: Mattie Sater of Fargo Lake, Washington. Four
grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, 2 p.m. at Gardner
Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Clevenger officiating. Interment was in the
IOOF Cemetery, White Salmon.

PIONEER JEWELER CALLED BY DEATH
Funeral services for Gilbert J. Knutson, 86, were held
yesterday, February 18, at 2 p.m. at the Gardner's Funeral Home. White Salmon's
pioneer jeweler died Sunday, Feb. 15, in a Battle Ground nursing home where
he had been a patient for three weeks.
Mr. Knutson was born February 17, 1872 at Adams, Minnesota
and came to this area in 1888. From 1903 to 1958 he owned and operated his
watch repair and jewelry store in White Salmon.
Burial was in the Odd Fellows cemetery. Pall bearers
were Lloyd Knutson, Glynne Knutson, Ted Struck, Gene Struck, Roger Knutson
and Rodney Flindt.
He is survived by three sons, Lloyd J. and Gilbert Jr.
(Jewel) of White Salmon and Kelsey of Portland; brothers Charles of Seattle
and James of Los Angeles; sister, Mattie Sater of Fargo Lake; four grandchildren
and 13 great-grandchildren.
