Gertrude (Peggy) Morris was born July 13, 1885 in Centralia
where she grew up and attended school. While visiting a cousin who lived
near Portland, Oregon, she met her husband, William M. Moore. They were married
in Salem on June 9, 1901.
Bill and his brother John looked over the Panacanic country
in 1901. John staked out a homestead in 1902 and their mother in 1903, but
Bill and Peggy didn't move into Appleton until 1923.
They bought their present a place in 1928. Two years
ago when they celebrated their 60th anniversary, their cattle and timber
spread had grown to nearly 3500 acres.
Bill became one of Appleton's most enthusiastic booster.
Peggy's unique garden was a natural museum of rocks, sea shells, antique
iron, formal flower beds, blossoming shrubs and trees. The third member of
the family partnership was their son David.
In addition to her husband and son, Mrs. Moore is survived
by a sister, Mrs. Minnie Havernen of Centralia.
