Burial was in Balch cemetery. Officiating was Rev. Bettie Sawtelle.

Quinton died following his being rescued from the ocean
after the Norwegian freighter Thorsall rammed the Army's dredge Rossell as
it lugged its last load across the bar at Coos Bay, Ore. Quinton, employed
by the Corps of Engineers, was a bin tender aboard the Rossell.
The Rossell sank almost immediately after being hit amidship
at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10. Two crewmen were killed outright. Another was
declared missing. Seven were hospitalized. Many of the remaining 42 men aboard
were hurt and in stages of acute shock.
The men on the Rossell had less than a minute warning
before the collision and another minute to get into lifeboats. One boat was
smashed by eight-foot waves. Another capsized. Two others were successfully
manned.
A helicopter piloted by Wesley Lematta of Portland managed
to lasso and rescue 15 men clinging to the rigging and smoke stacks of the
submerged Rossell.
Quinton was taken to the Coos Bay Coast Guard station
at Charleston where he died, presumably from a heart attack.
George Nelson Quinton was born June 21, 1913 at Rigby, Idaho. He was
a W.W. II veteran and member of American Legion Post 140 of Lyle.
