G.R. MITCHELL TAKEN BY DEATH

     George Robert (Dad) Mitchell, 85-year-old Goldendale resident died at his home here Thursday evening following an extended illness. Funeral services for the pioneer resident and Grange member were held from the Chapman chapel Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Burial followed in the Spring Creek cemetery.
     Mitchell was born in Muscatine, Iowa, October 8, 1852 and had been a resident of Klickitat county since 1903. He was a member of Goldendale Grange number 49, having transferred his membership here from Iowa. Since his early youth he was a member of the Methodist church.
     He was preceded by his wife Mara Isabelle Stevenson, who died 12 years ago. He is survived by six children: George, of Ellensburg; William C. of Lyle; Mrs. Lois Trotman, of Bremerton; Glenn B., of Ellensburg; and Mrs. Robert Divers, of Goldendale. Besides his children he is survived by 27 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. A half sister in the east and a number of nephews and nieces also survive.
     Funeral services were conducted by Miss Opal Benedict, of the Centerville Church of Christ.

OBITUARY

     George Robert Mitchell was born Oct. 28, 1852 in Muscatine, Iowa, and died May 5, 1938 in Goldendale near which place he had lived since 1903. He was 85 years, six months and seven days of age.
     In February, 1877, he was united in marriage to Mara Isabelle Stevenson who preceded him in death 12 years ago. To this union were born nine children: George of Ellensburg, Wash.; Emma J. who died in Nov., 1925; Robert C. who died in Feb., 1937; William S. of Lyle, Wash.; Ralph A. who died in May, 1930; Mrs. Lois Trotman of Bremerton, Wash.; Glenn B. of Ellensburg, and Mrs. Faye Divers, of Goldendale.
     Besides his children he leaves 27 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and one great-great grand child.
     He joined the Methodist church at an early age and continued in that belief the remainder of his life.
     He was a member of the Grange since early manhood, having joined in the east and also belonged to Grange number 49 in Goldendale.
     Besides his immediate family he leaves a half-sister in the East, several nieces and nephews, and also a host of friends in this community and wherever he has lived.
     Funeral services were held Sunday, May 8 from the Chapman chapel in Goldendale, with Opal Benedict of Centerville, officiating. Interment followed in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
