GEORGE CARR
White Salmon resident George Thompson Carr died at his
home on June 7, 2003, at the age of 99 and a half.
He was born on Jan. 1, 1904, in Grand Island, Neb., the
son of Harlow and Katherine (Thompson) Carr. He put himself through electrical
school in Chicago and worked on Boulder (Hoover) Dam, Coulee Dam, Shasta
Dam and Bonneville Dam.
He married Effie Huse in 1929 and in 1936 they purchased
acreage in the Trout Lake Valley, where they raised their family. Mr. Carr
ran his own logging operation and small sawmill in Trout Lake. In 1956, Mr.
Carr moved to Petersburg, Alaska and for 20 years worked as a commercial
fisherman. He and his wife moved to White Salmon in 1976 and he took up the
new hobby of gardening.
Mr. Carr enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a strong
supporter of the National Rifle Association. He will be remembered by his
family as a loving, caring father and grandfather.
He was was preceded in death by his wife, Effie, who
died in 1982.
Survivors include children Dean F. Carr, Bingen, Carole
M. Beeks, Trout Lake, and Richard T. Carr, North Bend, Ore.; his 100 and
a half year old sister Gladys G. Payne, Sevina Park, Maryland; 11 grandchildren,
20 great-grandchildren, and two great, great-grandchildren.
The family will observe private services. He will be
laid to rest by his wife in the Trout Lake Cemetery.
Gardner Funeral Home's Columbia River Crematory handled
arrangements.
