GERTRUDE W. POLLARD
White Salmon native Gertrude W. Pollard, a former local school teacher who along
with her husband ran the Mt. Adams Sun newspaper for many years, died Thursday,
Jan. 7, in The Dalles, Ore. She was 77.
She was born Oct. 30, 1910 to Teunis and Olga (Lauterbach)
Wyers in White Salmon. She graduated from high school here, and from the
University of Washington in 1932. In 1946, she married Bernard Pollard. She
lived in California from 1972 to 1986 before returning to White Salmon. Mrs.
Pollard taught high school in White Salmon for many years in addition to her
newspaper duties. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Order of the Eastern
Star, Retired Teachers’ Association, AAUW of California, and attended Bethel
Congregational Church here. She was an avid reader.
Mrs. Pollard is survived by her sister, Marie Kreps of
White Salmon; nieces Marguerite Kayser of Centerville, Olga Jane Heckomovich of
White Salmon, and Mary Louise Shattuck of Toppenish; nephews Oliver T. Kreps of
White Salmon, Lorne Pollard of Tacoma, and Lynn Bronson of Vancouver, Wash. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, in May 1985, and one nephew.
Services for Mrs. Pollard were held Saturday, Jan. 9,
at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon with the Rev. Arthur Dickie
officiating. Interment followed in the White Salmon Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Skyline

POLLARD
Gertrude W. Pollard, 77, of White Salmon, died Jan. 7, in The Dalles.
Mrs. Pollard was born Oct. 30, 1910 in White Salmon to
Olga Lauterbach and Teunis Wyers, graduated from a local high school and
finished studies at the University of Washington in 1932. She lived most of her
life in Washington and California. She was married to Bernard Pollard in 1946.
Mrs. Pollard taught high school in White Salmon for
many years, as well as helping her husband run the Mt. Adams Sun newspaper. She
was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Order of Eastern Star, Retired Teachers
Association and AAUW in California. She also attended Congregational church and
was an avid reader.
She is survived by a sister Marie Kreps of White Salmon
and numerous nieces and nephews. Among them are: Marguerite Kayser,
Centerville, Olga Jane Heckomovich, White Salmon, Loren Pollard, Tacoma and Lynn
Bronson of Vancouver.
The funeral was held Jan. 9 and interment was at the
White Salmon Cemetery. The Reverend Arthur Dickie officiating while the Gardner
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
