HARLEY FORDYCE
Lifelong Klickitat County resident Harley Fordyce of
White Salmon died Sept. 8 in Portland. Mr. Fordyce was 87.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, today, at Gardner
Funeral Home, beginning at 11 a.m. It will be officiated by the Mt. Adams
Elks lodge. Committal will follow at White Salmon Cemetery.
He was born in Husum Dec.16, 1902, to Laura (Richelderfer)
and Robert William Fordyce. He was the first son of Robert Fordyce, who
homesteaded here in the 1880s. He was raised in the White Salmon.
From 1938-43, Mr. Fordyce owned, and operated a machine
shop in BZ Corners. From 1943-65, he worked at Hollenbeck Mill in Trout Lake
as a master mechanic. In 1965, he owned a car wash in White Salmon.
Mr. Fordyce was a charter member of the Mt. Adams Elks
Lodge No. 1868.
He is survived by sons Bob Fordyce of White Salmon and
Don Fordyce of Beaverton, Ore.; brothers Chester Fordyce of White Salmon
and Wade Fordyce of Cucamonga, Calif.; sisters Hulda Woodhead of Sumner,
Blanche Brown of Edmonds and Edna Cox of White Salmon; three grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials in Mr. Fordyce's name may be given to the Mt.
Adams Elks Building Fund.
