Mrs. Hattie Gerbing, a resident of Panacanick, (in western Klickitat) died at her home on March 27, 1909. A sympathetic friend of the deceased writes a tribute to her memory: Dearest Hattie though hast left us. No more thy voice we'll hear. Our hearts are heavy, Oh! so heavy! But Jesus deepest wounds can heal, and to him we'll calmly trust, till on heaven's strands we meet thee. We love thee, Oh! we loved thee, dearly, but our Savior loved thee better. A place with in our hearts is vacant, that no other one can fill; but thy memory still will sweetly linger till we cross the dark and swollen tide, and thee do greet.
