HIRAM A. MARKGRAF
Former Glenwood resident Hiram Albert Markgraf, 79, died
Monday, Sept. 25, in Vancouver, Wash. Funeral services were held Saturday,
Sept. 30, at Gardner Funeral Home, White Salmon. Pastor Phil Sanford officiated.
Committal was at Mt. Adams Cemetery, Glenwood.
Mr. Markgraf was born in Glenwood Jan. 2, 1910, to Edna
(Hilton) and William Markgraf. He moved to California when he was young,
and moved back to Glenwood when he was nine years old. In 1923, he moved
to Yakima Valley.
In 1931, Mr. Markgraf married Mary Hardin. The couple
lived in the mid-Columbia area, mainly in Stevenson, and worked in various
farms. He retired in 1983 and moved to Vancouver.
He was baptized in Methodist Church. He was master and
long-time member of Stevenson Grange. He was a former member of Oddfellows.
Mr. Markgraf enjoyed to read, hunt, fish and rock hound. He also grew beautiful
flowers and raised canaries.
Mr. Markgraf is survived by wife Mary of Vancouver; sons,
Glen A. Markgraf and Monty E. Markgraf of Yakima; daughters Mary Lou Gordon
of Wenatchee and Carol L. Markgraf of Vancouver; brother Bill Markgraf of
Madras, Ore.; sisters Ruth Akerill of Portland, Ore., Elizabeth Guthrie of
Vancouver, and Edith Warner of BZ Corners nine grandchildren and 16
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley L. Markgraf.

Hiram Albert Markgraf, who lived for many years in Stevenson
before moving to Vancouver in 1983, died in Vancouver Sept. 25, 1989 at the
age of 79.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 30, at the
Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon with Pastor Phil Sanford officiating.
Committal was at the Mt. Adams Cemetery in Glenwood, Wash.
Mr. Markgraf was born in Glenwood Jan. 2, 1910, the son

Bill Markgraf Madras, Ore.; three sisters, Ruth Akerill of Portland, Ore.,
Elizabeth Guthrie of Vancouver, and Edith Warner of BC Corners; nine
grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley L. Markgraf.
