HENRY A. MILLER
Henry A. Miller of Goldendale, for many years in a rancher
in the Centerville area, died Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the University of Oregon
Health Sciences Center in Portland, Ore. He was 73.
Miller was born in Goldendale on May 16, 1907, to John
A. and Elizabeth Miller. He attended Goldendale schools for twelve years
and graduated magna cum laude in accounting from the University of Washington
in 1929. In 1933 he married Florence Scott and they farmed in the Centerville
area until his retirement in 1972.
The couple moved to Goldendale this year to a new home
built by Miller with the assistance of family and friends.
Miller gave much of his time to civic endeavors as well
as his family. He served as leader of the Central Klickitat 4-H. Club, director
of the Centerville School Board, president of the Goldendale PTA, a member
and master of both the Centerville and Pomona Granges, and director of the
Centerville cemetery district.
He was a Klickitat County Commissioner for 12 years,
a founder and director of Klickitat Valley Bank, president of the Klickitat
County Historical Society, PUD commissioner, Republican county chairman and
a member of the Washington State Roads Commission.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Florence; two sons,
John, a colonel in the U.S. Army stationed in Hawaii, and James, a senior
construction supervisor from Issaquah; six grand sons, Douglas, Jeffrey,
John, James, Kenneth and Michael; two granddaughters, Larci and Sheri; two
great-grand children, Christopher and Paula; a brother, Jerome of Glenwood;
four sisters, Mary Jaekel of Centerville and Zelma Taylor, Helen Reierson
and Jean Hannifan, all of The Dalles; and several nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by a brother, Reginald.
Remembrance services for Miller were held Saturday, September
27 at the Goldendale Grange Hall. Eulogies were offered by Joe Dressel, William
Garner, Grace Forry and Wayne Eshelman. His six grandchildren served as
pallbearers and the family recognized all friends and relatives as honorary
pallbearers.
Interment was in the Centerville Cemetery with the Rev.
William Taylor, a family friend from Portland, Ore., officiating.
