CRASH KILLS MOTHER OF 7 SATURDAY
In a grinding-flying crash that one boy witnessed from
the top of the Dock road, and others viewed from near the Hearn Fruit stand
on Highway 830, Mrs. Helen Anderson, 32, lost her life Saturday morning about
10:30 a.m. when the car she was driving plunged over the edge of the narrow
roadway.
Authorities stated that the car probably was going at
an excessive rate of speed. The 1952 Mercury sedan was left on the rocky
hillside about halfway down the almost vertical bluff. The body of Mrs. Anderson
was taken to the bottom of the bluff by members of the White Salmon Fire
Department rescue team. The 2 door car carried in Oregon license 98 8344.
Mrs. Anderson was thrown out of the vehicle and her body was found about
50 feet below the car.
Mrs. Anderson was the mother of 7 youngsters, 10 years
old and younger. Her body was taken to Gardner's funeral home here.

MOTHER OF 7 KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENT
Helen M. Anderson, 31, of White Salmon, was apparently
killed instantly Saturday morning when the car she was driving plunged off
the road on a curve on S.E. 6th street in White Salmon.
Mrs. Anderson, driving a '52 Mercury sedan owned by Jack
fitzgerald, was alone at the time that she apparently was unable to negotiate
the down-grade curve due to excessive speed. The car hurled 25 feet out,
then dropped about 100 feet before hitting the hillside, Deputy Sheriff Harry
Dawson reported. The vehicle then bounded into the air for 50 feet, rolling
and bouncing, and came to rest about 200 feet below the edge of the
road.
Deputy Coroner Moz Burles reported that death must have
been almost instantaneous; the body was taken to Gardner's Funeral
Home.
Mrs. Anderson, divorced, is survived by seven children.
