H.C. DEBO DEAD

H.C. Debo died at his home at Hood, this county, last Saturday and was buried Monday in the Underwood cemetery. We were certainly sorry to hear this piece of news. It seems only a little while ago since Mr. Debo was here, his face wreathed with smiles and his hearty laugh ringing out at the least provocation. He was certainly full of life then, and his interest in the things of this world was pleasant to see. He had an orchard on his place which was his great delight and he was a tickled as a kid when he took several prizes last year. Dad Debo, as he was familiarly called by his friends, and nobody ever met him that was not at once his friend, was a happy, whole souled, care free man; one who always took an optomistic view of thing and would laugh at his misfortune. The last time he was in town he came in to see the editor and admonished us "Now boost for Skamania county; we have the best apple country in the world, so boost for it." And then his happy laugh rang out. And now he is dead. His genial voice will come to cheer us no more in this life. But his life has not been lived in vain. If we follow what it teaches we will learn to be happy under adverse circumstances. Though we had not hears of his illness, it is said that he has been ailing all summer and fall, but he was always so cheerfull that his friends did not realize that his condition was so serious, and the end came as a distinct shock to everybody. The world would be happier if it contained more men like H.C. Debo.
