"Lyle News"

Harold Sorensen, 61, died on New Years Eve at The Dalles General Hospital. He had not been recently hospitalized in Portland at the Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment of a coronary illness, but had returned to his home in Goldendale to spend the Holidays with his family. Harold was a member of a large family of descendants of pioneers in Klickitat County. His father, Van Sorensen, came to this country from Copenhagen, Denmark, before the turn of the century, accompanied by three sisters, Henrietta, Kamma and Alrona, and settled in this county and the Lyle-Hood River vicinity. He married Edith Clark, who bore him four sons, Harold, Kenneth, Glen and Vernon who preceded Harold in death. Harold was born on May 20, 1907 in Hood River, Oregon, and spent his lifetime in this county, where he farmed for many years. Two years before his death, he moved to Goldendale and went to work for the county, becoming supervisor of road maintenance of the eastern section. Nearly all of Lyle's residents are related to the Sorensen descendants, closely or by marriage, including one of Van Sorensen's daughters, Mrs. Kamma Clark, Harold's only surviving aunt. He is also survived by his wife, Dorothy, a son, Larry Sorensen of Lyle, and two daughters, Joann Rosenberg of Durango, Colo., and Dottie Sorensen of Portland. Because of the weather and hazardous road conditions the funeral was not until Tuesday, January 7, to permit all of the relatives to attend the services. Gardner's Funeral Chapel in White Salmon was in charge, the Rev. L.R. Phillips conducted the services, and burial was in the Lyle-Balch Cemetery. Harold had many friends throughout the county and particularly in Lyle, who mourn his passing with regret and sorrow. Sympathy is extended to all of the family.
