HAROLD E. CARPENTER
World War II Veteran and member of the Bethel Congregational
Church, Harold Eugene Carpenter died Nov. 23 in Camas. He was 61. Services
were held Nov. 28 at the Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon with the Rev.
Frederick Haag officiating.
Mr. Carpenter came to Cook in 1961. He later worked for
Broughton Lumber Co. as a construction timber grader and chipper operator.
He was born Nov. 19, 1916 in Rockville, Mo., to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Carpenter.
He is survived by his widow, Edna of Cook; five children,
David of Kelso, Glen of Cook, Chris Meling of Seattle, Donna Olsen of Anchorage,
Alaska; a brother Robert of Poulsbo; three sisters, Peg Stuckey of Seattle,
Elsie Wilcox and Allie Simons of Ellensburg; and four granddaughters.

RITES READ FOR GENE CARPENTER
Harold Eugene Carpenter, familiarly known as "Gene,"
for many years active in community affairs in the Mill A - Willard - Cook
area, died in a Camas rest home Wednesday, November 23, at the age of 61.
Mr. Carpenter had been in apparent good health until
he was stricken in February of this year.
He was born November 19, 1916, in Rockville Missouri,
the son of Frank and Florence Carpenter. While he was still a youngster the
family moved to Ellensburg, Washington, and he grew up there.
During World War II he served with the U.S. Coast Guard
and later lived and worked in the Seattle area. He and his sons moved to
Cook in 1961 and he was employed as a construction timber grader and chipper
operator with the Broughton Lumber Company.
Mr. Carpenter served for a number of years as a director
of the Mill A School Board. He was a member of the Bethel Congregational
Church, White Salmon.
"Gene" is survived by his wife, Edna Carpenter, Cook;
his mother, Florence Carpenter of Ellensburg; sons David Carpenter of Kelso
and Glen Carpenter of Crook; daughters, Chris Meling of Seattle and Donna
Olsen of Anchorage, Alaska; brother, Robert Carpenter of Poulsbo, Washington;
and sisters, Peg Stuckey of Seattle, Elsie Wilcox of Ellensburg and Allie
Simons, also of Ellensburg. There are four grand daughters.
He is also survived by a step-son, Earl Clubb of White
Salmon and a step-daughter, Bonnie Miller of La Mesa, New Mexico.
Funeral services were held at the Gardner Funeral Home
in White Salmon Monday, November 28, with the Rev. Frederick Haag officiating.
Interment followed at the White Salmon Cemetery.
