HERMAN HOIKKA

     Herman E. Hoikka was born in Kuusamo, Finland March 30, 1879 and died at the Klickitat Valley Hospital June 22, 1973.
     He came to the United States in 1902 and it worked on railroad construction for a time when the branch line was being built into Goldendale.
     Mr. Hoikka started farming in the Centerville area about 1906 and continued to do so until his retirement.
     He married Ida M. Lehto January 7, 1907. To this union ten children were born. Four have preceded him in death.
     Mrs. Hoikka died in 1949. He lived with some of his children until the last three years which he spent as a resident of Cascade Villa Convalescent Center in Goldendale.
     Survivors include five daughters: Esther Rein and Linda Scott of Battle Ground, Elina Grabin and Martha Hunt of Seattle and Louise Mattson of Centerville; 1 son, Arnold of Centerville; three grandchildren; Glenn and Lynn Scott and Jodi Grabin, and 2 great granddaughters, Kim and Kristi Scott.
     He was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church of Centerville.
     Funeral services were held June 25 at Knosher Funeral Home with Rev. Rafael Kuitti officiating.
     Pallbearers were Merle Wiidanen, Virgil Anderson, Glenn Smith, Alvin Randall, Stanley Crocker, and Raymond Mattson. Interment was in the Centerville Cemetery.
