"Local Happenings"

     Funeral services of Mrs. Henrietta Tobin, who passed away at The Dalles hospital last week, were held in Goldendale Monday forenoon, from the Catholic church, Rev. Father Edwards officiating. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery. Mrs. Tobin was 86 years, 4 months and 17 days of age at the time of her death, and before moving to The Dalles some years ago, had made her home near Centerville. An obituary appears elsewhere in this issue of The Sentinel.

OBITUARY

     Henrietta Hill was born in Belfast, County Mayo, Ireland, Oct. 20, 1838, and came with her parents to Canada when a girl of three years old.
     She was married to John Tobin at Elmer, Ontario, in 1860, then went to Minnesota in 1867. In 1874 they came to Oregon and from there to Klickitat county in 1877, where they made their home until 1903 when they moved to The Dalles, where death claimed her on March 5, 1925.
     To this union, 11 children were born, of whom seven were with her at her last resting place on March 9th.

     Mrs. Henrietta Tobin Dies -- Mrs. Henrietta Tobin, widow of a John Tobin, died last night at The Dalles hospital. Mrs. Tobin was a pioneer of Klickitat County and was well known in this section. She had made her home here in the Dalles for the last several years, living at 1300 Jackson street. Mr. Tobin's death occurred about seven years ago. Funeral arrangements are not yet made. The Crandall Undertaking company will have charge of the funeral.

     Tobin Services Held --Funeral services for Mrs. Henrietta Tobin, who died Thursday evening will be held Monday forenoon at 10 o'clock at the Catholic church at Goldendale and interment will be made in the Goldendale cemetery, according to announcement made last evening. Mrs. Tobin was born in Ireland in 1838. When only a year old, she came to America with her parents settling at Quebec, Canada. When she was 22 years old she was married to John Tobin. In 1878 she came with her husband to Washington territory, settling near Centerville. She was the mother of 10 children, 8 of whom survive her. They are: James Tobin of Canada, John Tobin of Alturas, Cal., Robert Tobin of Portland, Richard Tobin of Enterprise, Edward Tobin of Idaho, Michael Tobin of Flora, Ore., Thomas Tobin of Klickitat county, and Mrs. Anna Hoctor of Klickitat county. Besides her sons and daughters, Mrs. Tobin is survived by 41 grand children, 25 great grand children and two great great grandchildren. The past 33 years, Mrs. Tobin lived in The Dalles. Her husband died seven years ago and was buried in the Goldendale cemetery with two of her children. The body of Mrs. Tobin was cared for here by the Crandall Undertaking Co. and was taken to Goldendale last evening by members of the family.

HENRIETTA TOBIN, PIONEER, PASSES

     An obituary notice of the late Mrs. Henrietta Tobin was received by the Agri. too late for publication last week.
     Funeral services for Mrs. Henrietta Tobin, who passed away Thursday evening of last week at her home in The Dalles, were held at 10 o'clock Monday morning from the Catholic church at Goldendale, Rev. Father Edwards officiating. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery near Goldendale, under the direction of the Crandall Undertaking Company of The Dalles.
     Mrs. Tobin spent the past 23 years of her life in the Dalles. She was born in Ireland in 1838, but came to America when she was only one year old. The family first settled in Quebec, Canada, where Mrs. Tobin resided for a number of years. She married James Tobin when she was 22 years old and in 1879 came with him to Washington, settling in Klickitat county, near Centerville. Mr. Tobin died about seven years ago, and is buried in the Catholic cemetery.
     The deceased was the mother of ten children, eight of which survive. They are: James Tobin of Canada; John, of Alturas, Cal.; Robert of Portland; Richard of Enterprise, Or.; Edward of Idaho; Micheal of Flora, Or.; Thomas of Klickitat; and Mrs. Michael Hoctor of Goldendale. Mrs. Tobin also leaves 41 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and two great great grand children.
