HOWARD F. McLEOD
Howard F. McLeod, a native of the Lyle area, died January
4 in a Roseburg, Oregon Veterans' Administration Medical Center after a long
illness, at the age of 57.
He was born December 27, 1928 to George and Charlotte
(Burgess) McLeod in The Dalles, Oregon. Mr. McLeod attended schools in Lyle
and Parkrose, Ore. He entered military service in 1947, serving two terms
in Japan and Guam.
After developing health problems, Mr. McLeod returned
to the United States in 1957. He later worked as a signalman for the SP&S
Railroad. Mr. McLeod lived in Eugene, Ore. several years before entering
the VA hospital three months ago.
Mr. McLeod is survived by his son, Michael George McLeod,
San Jose, Calif.; daughter Keiko (Suzy) Kazato if Chiba, Japan; brothers
of William of Carson and Gordon of Trout Lake; sisters Etta Shebley of Lyle
and Etta Osina of Portland, Ore.; and granddaughters Bobby Joe and Shannon
McLeod, and Seina Kazato.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday, Jan. 9)
at 1 p.m. in Gardner funeral Home of White Salmon, with Rev. Bobby Joe Beauchamp
officiating. Interment will follow in the Appleton Cemetery. Gardner Funeral
Home is handling arrangements.
