HERMAN KUHNHAUSEN

     Herman Frank Kuhnhausen, a Glenwood native, died Jan. 28, 1997, at Skyline Hospital in White Salmon, at the age of 99.
     Mr. Kuhnhausen was born on Aug. 1, 1897 in Glenwood, living most of his life on the place where he was born. He married Carrie Hope Carter in 1926. They were married 67 years and had four children.
     Mr. Kuhnhausen sold cars since 1910, along with water pumps and auto and farm supplies. He ran a chain of movie theaters in his early days in Klickitat, Lyle and Glenwood. He also did clearing and logging until the mid 1960s. In his early days, he ran the first truck line from Klickitat County to Portland. He also hauled milk and delivered mail.
     His generous donation of land, time and love of the Glenwood Valley greatly helped in the development of the Community Church in Glenwood. He joined the Grange in 1938, and held many various offices for 25 years.
     He was a member of the Pioneer Memorial Community Church in Glenwood, the Pioneer Association, and Glenwood Grange #94. He and his wife were the 1992 Goldendale parade Grand Marshals. He loved to travel and take pictures. Old cars were his hobby. He also enjoyed writing and had written three books.
     Mr. Kuhnhausen is survived by his daughter, Evelyn Skarr, Stevenson; Harold Kuhnhausen, Glenwood; sister Rosa Surface, Hood River, Ore.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
     He was preceded in death by his wife Carrie in 1993, son Herman R. and daughter Ruth Alice Danielson, as well as one bother and one sister.
     Services for Mr. Kuhnhausen were held Saturday, Feb. 1, 1997, at 11 a.m. at Pioneer Memorial Community Church, with Rev. Greg Petrie officiating. Interment was at Mt. Adams Cemetery in Glenwood.
     Memorials may be made to the Pioneer Memorial Community Church in care of Gardner Funeral Home, who was in charge of the arrangements.

Herman sold cars since 1910, along with water pumps and had a farm implement business in Glenwood for many years.He also did land clearing and logging until the mid '60's. Herman moved many buildings in the Glenwood area. His donation of land, time and love of the Glenwood Valley greatly helped in the development of the Community Church in Glenwood.
     He was a member of Pioneer Memorial Community Church, Pioneer Association, and Glenwood Grange 94. Herman and his wife were Grand Marshals for the Goldendale Parade in 1992. He loved to travel and take pictures. Old cars and old farm machinery were his hobby. Herman also enjoyed writing and had written three books.
     He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Carrie; a son, Herman R. and daughter Ruth Alice Danielson; two grand-daughters, Alice Elda and Julie Ann as well as one brother and one sister.
     Herman is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Skaar of Stevenson; one son, Harold Kuhnhausen of Glenwood; one sister, Rosa Surface of Hood River; 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
     Funeral services were held Feb. 1 at Pioneer Memorial Community Church, with Rev. Greg Petrie officiating. Interment was at Mt. Adams Cemetery in Glenwood. Contributions may be made to Pioneer Memorial Community Church in Glenwood or Charity of Choice do Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon.
