BINGEN GIRL IS KILLED IN CRASH
Gertrude Christensen and Newt Nusik Die Following Collision Between Cars
- Others Hurt
Gertrude Christensen, 18, of Bingen, Wash., was instantly killed, and Newt Nusik, of Stevenson, died in hospital, following an automobile crash near North Bonneville Sunday afternoon. Nusik was driving one car into the wreck, and Robert Brown, of Bingen, the other. Injured were Mrs. Nusik, Brown, Dean Mullins, Charles Glayle and Dick Guard. The Brown car was turning at an intersection when the Nusik car crashed into it, overturned and burst into flames.

Two were killed and five injured in an automobile crash
on the Evergreen highway last Sunday afternoon. Miss Hulda Gertrude Christensen,
18, of White Salmon, was killed almost instantly and Newt Nusik, Skamania,
Wash., driver of one of the two cars involved, died in a Vancouver hospital.
The injured were: Mrs. Nusik, fractured leg and cuts
and bruises; Robert Brown of Bingen, driver of the other car, dislocated
shoulder and head and face lacerations. It was reported here early Tuesday
morning that Brown lost the sight of both eyes from flying glass; Dean Mullins,
North Bonneville, cuts and bruises; Charles Playle, of Bingen, cuts and bruises;
and Dick Guard, North Bonneville, bruises. Mullins, Playle and Guard were
in the Brown machine.
U-Turn Gets Blame
Nusik's machine crashed into the Brown car as the latter was attempting a U-turn at the Caples road intersection, witnesses said. The Nusik car, coming fast, crashed them, and overturned, burst into flames and was destroyed. The injured were taken first to the Stevenson, Wash., hospital and later to Vancouver.
Funeral Held Here Yesterday
The funeral for Miss Christensen, well-known White Salmon
girl, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Christensen, of this city, was held
from the Gardner Funeral Home here at 2 P.M. last Wednesday afternoon, with
interment in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
Her sister, Mrs. Kenneth Furlot, of Spokane, and her
cousin, Mrs. Eddie S. Johnson of North Bonneville, were here for the funeral.
Miss Christensen was born August 28, 1916 in Wheeler,
Dunn County, Wisconsin.
