HELEN GLADYS HESS
Helen Gladys Hess was born May 3rd, 1906 in the State
of Michigan. She came to Washington with her parents when she was only six
months of age and lived in Seattle during her school years. Since 1932 she
has made her home in Lyle, Washington.
On July 6th, 1942 she was united in marriage to Raymond
E. Hess at Santa Rosa, California. She was active in the community of Lyle,
having been a member of the Columbia Grange, the Woman's Club, and the American
Legion Auxiliary.
Besides her husband Ray, she leaves her father, Fred
J. Tanner of Hermiston, Oregon, one sister, Mrs. Alice Ware of Port Angeles,
Washington; three brothers: George Tanner and Frank Tanner of Lyle, and Earl
Tanner of Los Angeles, California, also two grandchildren.

MRS. RAY HESS OF LYLE DIES
Death from uremia came to Mrs. Raymond E. (Helen Tanner) Hess, 48, of Lyle, at The Dalles general hospital, Tuesday, April 5. She had been hospitalized for nine days. Mrs. Hess was born May 3, 1906 in Michigan. She has lived in Lyle since 1932. Gardners Funeral Service are in charge of funeral arrangements which are still pending.

DEATH SUMMONS MRS. RAY HESS
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at Lyle
Grange hall for Mrs. Raymond E. (Helen Gladys) Hess, 48, Lyle. Gardner's
funeral service were in charge of the arrangements. The Rev. L.L. Robinson
officiated. Burial was in the Balch cemetery.
Mrs. Hess was born May 3, 1906, at Chase, Michigan to
Fred J. and Bessie Tanner with whom she moved west at the age of six months
to Seattle. On July 6, 1942, she was married to Raymond E. Hess at Santa
Ana, Calif. Except for four years in California during World War II, Mrs.
Hess spent her entire life in Oregon and Washington. She was a member of
the American Legion Auxiliary, Columbia Grange and the Lyle Woman's Club.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond; father, Fred
J. Tanner of Hermiston, Ore.; sister, Alice Ware of Port Angeles; brothers,
George and Frank Tanner of Lyle, and Earl Tanner of Los Angeles; two
grandchildren Kerry and Larry Stigers of Eugene, Ore.; five nieces and six
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister Ella; mother,
Bessie; and son, Harry Daniel Stigers by a former marriage.
Pallbearers were Legionaires: Lawrence Quinton, Don Graves,
Kenneth Hewett, Ottis Shields, Warren McColley and Henry Leis.
