The suffer most when joy has fled,
Who long have walked neath happy skies;
Mankind knows sorrow waits ahead,
Nor can it here be otherwise,
Delight is heartache in disguise,
The tender memories we weave,
God's richest gift immortalize,
Who greatly loves must greatly drieve,
Since no escape man can devise,
From pain when glad companions leave,
Rich blessings bitter hurts comprise,
Who greatly loves must greatly grieve.
