HOWARD C. PATTON DIES AT HIS HOME

     Howard Campbell Patton, 57, died at his Laurel home Nov. 8 and was buried in the Mt. Adams Cemetery Armistice Day after services in the Glenwood Community Church.
     The deceased had lived at Laurel since 1916.
     Patton was born in Pennsylvania, September 20, 1895 and was united in marriage to Amy V. Kreps on April 16, 1923. He was a veteran of the first World War.
     For 15 years he followed road construction and was employed by the county as shovel operator and foreman.
     He was a member of the Methodist church, Evan Childs Post 87 of the American Legion, Camas Prairie Pioneer Association and the Glenwood Grange.
     He leaves a host of friends to mourn his passing.

HOWARD C. PATTON

     Howard Campbell Patton was born in Eperville, Pennsylvania on September 20, 1895, being the youngest of eleven children born to David and Susan Patton, and passed away at his home in Laurel November 8, 1952.
     His early boyhood was spent in Pennsylvania where his mother passed away when he was nine years of age. He then made his home with his brother, Harry, coming west to Oregon when he was thirteen years old. They moved to Laurel in the spring of 1916 and engaged in farming for one year, when Howard, a natural engineer, began working in saw mills.
     In September 1917 he entered the service and saw active duty in Co. F of the 316th supply train overseas in World War I, received his discharge in May, 1919.
     For about a year he was employed by Army officers as chauffeur at Fort Lewis, returning to Laurel in 1920 where for a number of years he followed saw milling as engineer, mill wright and truck driver.
     For fifteen years he followed road construction, employed by the county as a foreman and shovel operator. In 1943 he began driving the school bus from Laurel to Glenwood and continued until he became ill last month. He was a skilled mechanic and electrician, having made a study of both.
     He was united in marriage with Amy V. Kreps April 16, 1923 in White Salmon. The made their home continuously in Laurel.
     He was a member of the Methodist church, Evan Childs Post 87 of the American Legion, Camas Prairie Pioneer Association and the Glenwood Grange.
     Surviving him are his wife, Amy; four sisters in Pennsylvania; two brothers, Harry of White Salmon and Clare of Walla Walla. A great number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
     Funeral services were conducted by Rev. George of White Salmon in the Glenwood Community church. He was laid to rest in the Mt. Adams Cemetery of Glenwood Grange on November 11 with Gardner's of White Salmon in charge.

     GLENWOOD, No. 12, (Special) -- Our community was saddened again by the passing of Mr. Howard Patton. He was the school bus driver for a good many years, and will be greatly missed by all. The family have the sympathy of the entire community. He was a pioneer and Granger. He was laid to rest in the Grange cemetery Tuesday. He was also a War Veteran of World War I.
