CAMERON
Hugh Cameron, 88, of Centerville passed away in March
9 in Goldendale.
He was born of March 30, 1906, to Centerville pioneers
Daniel and Georgia (Palmer) Cameron at their ranch home near Centerville,
where he had lived his entire life. He attended schools in Centerville and
graduated with the class of 1925. He and Elma Mattson were married Oct. 18,
1928. They took over the family farm in 1929.
Mr. Cameron was a lifetime member of the Holy Trinity
Catholic Church in Goldendale and a seventh degree member of the Centerville
Grange, having served as master for three years during of the building of
the first Grange Hall. He was a director of the Klickitat County Grain Growers
for many years, had served several terms on the Centerville school board,
and was named Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1952. He and his sons were
named Cattlemen of the Year in 1969. In 1983 he received the O.P. Kreps Pioneer
Cattleman Award. He was also a life member of the Klickitat County Historical
Society.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Elma, and his
two sons, Bruce and Dale, all of Centerville. He is also survived by six
grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a nephew, John Ritzschke.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 12 at Holy
Trinity Catholic Church in Goldendale, Fr. Seamus Kerr, celebrant. Rosary
Services were held March 11 at Holy Trinity. Interment was in the Centerville
Cemetery under the direction of Knosher-Erdman Funeral Home. Pallbearers
were Wayne Hoctor, Anthony Sarsfield, Dennis Jaekel, Terry Linden, Jim Miller
and Marion Campbell. The family suggests memorials to a charity of the donor's
choice.
