LYLE PIONEER DIES APRIL 17
Funeral services for Ira Billings Hewett, age 82 years,
who passed away on Wednesday, April 17, at Lyle, were held last Friday April
19 at 2:00 PM at Gardner's Funeral Home.
Ira Billings Hewett was an early pioneer of the Lyle
district, and in 1895 was elected Master of Columbia Grange. A charter member
of that organization, he served as Master at various times for eleven years.
Ira Hewett was a former Postmaster for the town of Lyle.
He was born at Northhampton, Massachusetts, on December 5, 1863. Burial was
at Lyle, Washington.
Services were under the direction of the Masonic Lodge
with the Rev. George Jefferson officiating.

Leroy Hewett of the U.S. Army flew from Siam and arrived in Lyle Thursday morning to attend the funeral of his father, Ira Hewett, who passed away Wednesday morning. He will spend 30 days furlough with his wife and little daughter and his mother, Mrs. Ira Hewett.
