IVAN K. FINK
Underwood resident Ivan Kiel Fink died Friday, Oct. 9,
in Portland, Ore., at the age of 79.
He was born July 30, 1918 to Adie K. and Isabella (Tarr)
Fink in Rock Creek, Ore. -- the last of 12 children. The family lived on
a wheat farm at Rock Creek until his mother died in 1919. The family moved
to Boring, Ore., and then onto Mills City, Ore. After schooling, Mr. Fink
moved to Trout Lake, where he worked for Paul Caryl until World War II was
declared. He enlisted three months later in the Army Air Corps in 1942, and
was highly decorated for his 31 years of service. After the war he moved
back to White Salmon.
In July of 1945, he married Anabel E. Blaine in Stevenson.
Mr. Fink worked for the city of White Salmon for two years before moving
to Underwood. He worked as a carrier driver and mechanic for Broughton Lumber
Company until his retirement 14 years ago. He was baptized in the Lutheran
Church, and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign
War.
Mr. Fink is survived by his wife, Anabel of Underwood
children Maxine (Mickey) Nielsen of White Salmon, Pauline Phillips of Vancouver,
Wash., Richard (Bud) Walker of Underwood, and Gayle MacKay of Vancouver,
Wash. 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Fink have been scheduled for 11 a.m.
Thursday, Oct. 15, in the chapel of Gardner Funeral home, White Salmon, with
the Rev. Roger Clevenger officiating. Interment will follow in the White
Salmon Cemetery under the direction of Gardner Funeral Home.
