IRENE PORTNER
Irene Phoebe Elmer Portner, former Trout Lake resident,
died at her home in Hood River on Jan. 13, 2001, at the age of 88.
She was born on March 17, 1913, in Twin Falls, Idaho,
to Benjamin and Pearl (Jones) Marshall. As an infant, Mrs. Portner moved
to the Trout Lake area with her family. In 1932, she married Christ Elmer
in Trout Lake. They lived near Battle Ground for about nine years before
moving back to Trout Lake to raise their family. Christ died in 1960. In
1968; she married Joe Portner. He died in 1975.
Mrs. Portner attended the Grace Baptist Church in White
Salmon. She was a great reader and liked playing games, especially cards.
She also did a lot of volunteer work for the seniors.
Mrs. Portner is survived by her son Orville "Bud" Elmer,
Hood River; daughter Elinor Lamoreaux, White Salmon; brothers Ben Marshall,
Trout Lake, and Harold Marshall, Vancouver; sister Helen Luke, Vancouver;
seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her daughter Arlene Elmer, who died in 1950, brother Bill Marshall, and
sisters Florence Clark, Evelyn Clark and Faye Presler.
Funeral services for Irene Portner will be held on Friday,
Jan. 18, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Gardner Chapel in White Salmon, with interment
at the Trout Lake Cemetery.
Gardner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
