IRENE HILLMAN
Irene Hilman, 83, of Goldendale, died at her home Feb.
9, 2001.
She was born Jan.24, 1918, in Brush Prairie, the youngest
of 13 children, to Henry and Clara Matson. Irene spent her childhood in the
Brush Prairie area, attending Hockinson Grade School and Battle Ground High
School. She married Ray Hilman on Dec.21, 1935, at her parents' home in Brush
Prairie and moved to Alberta, Canada, spending a number of years at locations
in Alberta and Washington before settling in Goldendale in 1955.
Irene enjoyed gardening, hand-work, travel and maintaining
her friendships and relationships through mail, phone and most recently,
email. She was a gracious hostess to the myriad of visitors who enjoyed her
homemade bread and hospitality. Irene was a lifetime member of the Apostolic
Lutheran Church and maintained active support of school and community interests.
One son, Ronald, and 12 brothers and sisters preceded
her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Ray, of Goldendale; daughters
Loretta Bierkos of Sylvan Lake, Alberta; Iris Seppala of Clayton, Calif.;
Anita Walters of Portland, Ore.; Wanda Hilman and Naomi Mata of Goldendale;
sons, Raymond, of Vancouver; Clinton, of Gresham, Ore.; Dennis of Yekatrinberg,
Russia; Howard, of Camas; Darrel of Calgary, Alberta; Harlan and Bryan, of
Portland, Ore.; 44 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren and dozens of nephews
and nieces.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb.17, at 11
a.m. in the Centerville School with interment at the Centerville Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. at the Hockinson
Apostolic Lutheran Church, 16108 N.E. 192nd Ave., Brush Prairie, Wash.
