JAMES C. AUSTIN SERVICES HELD AT ST. JOSEPH'S
James Carl Austin of White Salmon, died Thursday, August 4 at Husum.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James A. Austin, a sister, Mrs.
Elizabeth Jordan all of White Salmon, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Barghoff and William D. Austin all of Yakima.
He was born at Yakima October 18, 1945. He was in the United States
Army from March 1963 to March 1966. He had been employed in the planer mill
at SDS Lumber company since April.
Rosary was said Friday, August 5, with a Requiem Mass Saturday at 10
a.m. with Father Shields officiating. Burial was in Goodwill Cemetery, White
Salmon.
Bearers were Robert Berghoff, James Jordan, Joe Peterson, Wayne Jarvis,
Les Berghoff and Monty Berghoff.

HUSUM CRASH TAKES LIFE OF JIM AUSTIN
A 3 15 a.m., one car crash, August 4th at Husum claimed the life of James C.
Austin, 20, of White Salmon at the Rattlesnake Creek bridge in Husum.
The state patrol reported James C. Austin, 20, of White
Salmon was traveling south on 121 at a high rate of speed.
After crossing the White Salmon river bridge the
vehicle crossed the road to the left in a right curve striking the
Rattlesnake Creek bridge in a broadside.
The vehicle spun around throwing the driver from the
vehicle and came to rest in the southbound traffic lane facing north.
Upon impact the vehicle exploded, throwing parts as far
as 300 feet in all directions.
Austin was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy
coroner Q. L. Chapman and was taken to the Gardner Funeral Home.
Assistance was rendered at the scene with manual
control and cleanup operations by local residents and the Husum Fire
Department which the patrol wishes to thank.
