KLICKITAT PIONEER DIES
John Adams Hylton was born in Virginia August 11, 1880,
and passed away December 25, 1957 at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 14
days. He came to Klickitat County with his parents in 1893. They homesteaded
at Appleton. In 1906 he married Vera Clark and to this union four children
were born; Gladwin of Camas, Howard of Trout Lake, Dorothy Cummings of Salem
and Stanley of Lyle. Mrs. Hylton passed away in 1920 and he married Leota
Fry in 1922. He resided in Trout Lake from 1921 until 1941, where they owned
and farmed what is known as the Hylton place.
They moved from Trout Lake to North Bonneville in 1941
and for the last three years have resided at White Salmon. In early days
Mr. Hylton operated and ran the livery stable and garage in Lyle.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 28 at
the Bethel Congregational church in White Salmon at 10 a.m. with Rev. Rodger
Clevenger officiating. Pall bearers were his three grandsons, Dennis, Douglas
and David Hylton, and his three step grand-children, Lewis and Danny Frey
and Jack Cain.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow, Leota of White
Salmon, one daughter, Dorothy Cummings of Salem, and three sons, Gladwin
of Camas, Howard of Trout Lake and Stanley of Lyle, one step-son, Spencer
Frey of Trout Lake and one adopted son, Kenneth of White Salmon. One sister,
Nettie West of White Salmon, two brothers, Burchard of Vancouver and Joe
of Colton, Oregon. Fourteen grandchildren, eleven step grand children, three
great grandchildren and nine great step grand children and also many other
relatives and friends in Lyle, Appleton, White Salmon and Trout Lake.
Interment was at the Pleasant View cemetery at Appleton,
Wash.

DEATH CALLS ADAM HYLTON
In Bethel Congregational church of White Salmon services
were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28 for Adam Hylton, 77, resident of Klickitat
County since 1892 and of White Salmon for three years. Gardner's were in
charge of funeral arrangements.
The Rev. Roger L. Clevenger officiated and burial was
in Appleton Cemetery. Pall bearers were Dennis, David and Douglas Hylton,
Lewis and Danny Frey, and Jack Cain, grandsons.
The deceased, former farmer and of recent years a carpenter,
was born August 11, 1880 in Virginia. He died of heart trouble on Christmas
day in Skyline hospital where he was taken the day before.
Mr. Hylton is survived by his wife Leota P. of White
Salmon; sons Gladwin C. Hylton of Camas, Howard L. of Trout Lake and Stanley
E. of Lyle; daughter Dorothy Cummins of Salem; step son Spencer L. Frey of
Trout lake; adopted son Kenneth Hylton of White Salmon; 25 grand-children
and five great grand-children.
Also a sister Mrs. Cecil West of White Salmon; and brothers
Joe Hylton of Appleton and Richard of Vancouver.
