JOHN ALBERT JAEKEL
John Albert Jaekel, 65, passed away Aug. 21 in Pullman.
He was born March 18, 1911 in Warwick, the son of Albert
and Mabel Jaekel. John Jaekel graduated from Goldendale High School in 1930
and from Washington State University (WSU) in 1935.
From 1937 to 1946, he worked for Anaconda Copper in Chile.
In 1946, he returned to WSU to help establish the Metalurgist Laboratory.
He also worked for several private industries.
John Jaekel returned to WSU in 1956 to do research.
He married Zilda Baker Aug. 5, 1956 at The Dalles. The
couple made their home in Pullman from that time on.
John Jaekel received his Masters degree in 1957 from
the University of Idaho. He retired in 1967.
He was a past member of the Pullman Kiwanis Club, Sigma
Xi and Tau Beta Pi, science honoraries, and Delta Chi, social fraternity.
Survivors include: Zilda, his wife, Pullman; Howard H.
Jaekel, his brother, Stockton, Calif.; and Mabel Jaekel, his mother, Goldendale.
Two nieces also survive him.
Services for John Jaekel were held Aug. 26 at the Centerville
Cemetery in Centerville. The Rev. Arman Larive of St. James Episcopal Church
in Pullman officiated.
The family suggests memorials be made in John Jaekel's
name to the WSU Scholarship and Development Fund in Pullman.

John Albert Jaekel, 65, died Aug. 21 at a local nursing
home where he had been a patient for four and one-half months.
Jaekel was born March 18, 1911, at Warwick, the son of
Albert and Mabel Jaekel. He graduated from Goldendale High School in 1930,
he received his bachelor's degree from Washington State University.
From 1937 to 1946, Jaekel worked for the Anaconda Copper
Co. in Chile. In 1946, he returned to Washington State University and helped
establish the metalurgist laboratory here.
On August 5, 1956, he married his wife, Zilda Baker,
at the Dalles, Ore. They have made Pullman their home since.
He was a past member of the Pullman Kiwanis Club, Sigma
Xi and Tau Beta Pi science honoraries and Delta Chi fraternity.
Survivors include his wife, Zilda at Pullman; one brother,
Howard H. Jaekel of Stockton, Calif.; and his mother, Mabel Jaekel of
Goldendale.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Centerville
Cemetery at Centerville, Wash. Rev. Arman Larive of St. James Episcopal Church
of Pullman will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Washington WSU Scholarship
and Development Fund.
